WCF Raises More Than $924,000 to Benefit Area Residents for Years to Come

April 1, 2025, Williamsburg, VA – Thanks to the generosity of our community, Williamsburg Community Foundation has exceeded its original goal for the 25th Anniversary Campaign, raising $924,408 to ensure lasting support for local nonprofits. Because these funds are endowed, WCF will be able to increase its grantmaking capacity, forever, strengthening the Foundation’s ability to serve Williamsburg, James City County and York County for generations to come.

A key component of the campaign’s success was a generous matching challenge that encouraged donors to amplify their impact. The Foundation extends its heartfelt gratitude to the donors who stepped forward to provide matching funds, inspiring others to give: John & Julia Curtis, Mike & Carolyn McNamara, Sally & Jim Thomas, Dixie D. Wolf & Henry C. Wolf, and an anonymous donor.

“These gifts will significantly increase our competitive grantmaking,” said Nancy Coté Sullivan, President & CEO. “Because of this campaign, we can award more grants each year to support the six priority areas that make our community stronger: arts & culture, children & young adults, economic mobility, health & community wellness, environment & conservation, and senior services.”

Throughout the campaign, the Foundation highlighted the power of philanthropy with a series of surprise grants to local nonprofits, showcasing how connecting people who care with causes that matter leads to meaningful change. These grants not only provided immediate support to critical programs but also illustrated the long-term impact of growing the community endowment.

“This campaign was about more than just raising funds—it was about coming together as a community,” said Alison Lennarz, Board Chair. “Every gift, large or small, played a role in securing a brighter future for our neighbors.”

With the expanded endowment, the Foundation is not just continuing its work—it is transforming what is possible for our community. Increased grant funding means more support for local nonprofits tackling critical issues and lasting opportunities for future generations right here at home.
