WCF Campaign Reaches $1 Million, Growing Support for Local Nonprofits

Two post-Campaign gifts boost 25th Anniversary Campaign beyond milestone goal

July 10, 2025 – The Williamsburg Community Foundation is pleased to announce that its 25th Anniversary Campaign has officially surpassed $1 million, thanks to two new leadership donors that stepped forward after the official close of the Campaign.

Launched to mark the Foundation’s milestone year, the Campaign originally set out to raise $750,000 to build long-term support for local nonprofits. When the campaign concluded earlier this year, community members had contributed an impressive $924,000 — exceeding the goal thanks in part to several leadership donors who provided challenge matches to inspire broader participation.

These final two leadership gifts — one from longtime Foundation supporters Marc B. and Wilma R. Sharp, and one from Two Friends of Williamsburg who wish to remain anonymous — pushed the total over $1 million.

The goal of the Campaign, which officially concluded on January 31 of this year, was to build long-term resources to support the Foundation’s competitive grants to local nonprofits, year after year. With this expanded capacity, the Foundation will be able to increase its annual awards to local nonprofits tackling critical needs— from education, food security, housing, and health care services to environmental sustainability and access to arts and cultural experiences that enrich community life.

“Crossing the $1 million mark is a powerful milestone—not just in dollars, but in what it represents, said Nancy Sullivan, President & CEO. “It’s not about one campaign—it’s about what comes next. These gifts are a vote of confidence in the future of Williamsburg. Because of them, we can award more grants to the nonprofits that help our neighbors and our community thrive.”

While the Foundation holds more than $33.7 million in total assets, just over $8 million is permanently endowed for competitive grantmaking — the kind of funding that allows the Foundation to respond directly to local needs and opportunities. Growing this pool is a key strategy for expanding impact.
