For Immediate Release

Williamsburg Community Foundation Celebrates 25 years with Surprise Grants,                                       March Grant is awarded to Literacy for Life

March 19, 2024, Williamsburg, Va:   As part of its year-long 25th Anniversary celebration, Williamsburg Community Foundation is awarding a surprise $2,500 grant to a local nonprofit each month. At the Foundation’s recent 25th Anniversary Celebration & Campaign Kickoff, a drawing was held to select ten Foundation supporters who will choose the surprise grant recipients.

The March grant is being presented by Roger Guernsey, who chose Literacy for Life to receive this month’s grant. Guernsey presented the check today to Jason Thornton, Executive Director of Literacy For Life

Roger Guernsey noted, “I had learned of the important educational work of Literacy for Life over many years and am pleased to be able to choose to support that work by selecting it as a surprise 25th anniversary grant recipient.  Education is very important to me and my wife Merry, who served on the WCF Scholarship and Distribution Committees.”

Literacy for Life offers free and low-cost tutoring programs, as well as job support, health literacy lessons and much more. Literacy for Life is opening new doors for members of our community.

Thornton thanked Guernsey for choosing LFL to receive this surprise grant from the Foundation.

“We are grateful for the philanthropic mission of Williamsburg Community Foundation. We congratulate the Foundation on its 25th anniversary and are delighted to receive a surprise grant commemorating this momentous occasion. For many years, their support has fueled our work with adult learners in Greater Williamsburg. What a fantastic community partner!”
