December 10, 2024 – Beginning in 2025, Williamsburg Community Foundation will offer grants to programs that promote the use of biking and other forms of active transportation in greater Williamsburg. This may include bicycle education, refurbishment, therapeutic or recreational programs, or programs that donate bikes to individuals and families.
This grant program is made possible thanks to the Mary Turnbull Bike & Walk Fund at the Williamsburg Community Foundation, established by Allen Turnbull in 2023 in memory of his wife, and supported with generous donations from her family and friends. Mary Turnbull lived on the Peninsula for many years, retiring as a media specialist from Lafayette High School. As a passionate advocate for cycling for transportation, exercise, and helping the environment, she commuted 12 miles daily by bike to her job. She was the first president of the Williamsburg Area Bicyclists.
