BikeWalk Williamsburg Receives May Surprise Grant

May 14, 2024, Williamsburg, Va:   As part of its year-long 25th Anniversary celebration, Williamsburg Community Foundation is awarding a surprise $2,500 grant to a local nonprofit each month. At the Foundation’s recent 25th Anniversary Celebration & Campaign Kickoff, a drawing was held to select ten Foundation supporters who will choose the surprise grant recipients.

The May grant is being presented by Harold Philipsen, who chose BikeWalk Williamsburg to receive this month’s grant. Philipsen presented the check today to Allison Jarvis, Bicycle Co-Op Manager at BikeWalk Williamsburg.

BikeWalk Williamsburg educates and advocates for safe places to bike and walk. Their goal is a seamless network of sidewalks, bike paths, and bike lanes that will encourage “everyone to bike or walk everywhere.” Their volunteers carry out this mission through biking programs in the elementary schools, bike safety education in the community, Cycling Without Age to provide riding experiences for seniors, and the Bicycle Co-Op, which refurbishes gently used bicycles that can be purchased or donated to community partners. They partner with other nonprofits and social service organizations to make sure that those who need bike transportation for work can get reliable bikes, and to provide bikes for recreation and health.
