Multigenerational Giving: The Geddy Family Fund

“We would like to see the Community Endowment grow so that we can continue making Williamsburg an even more vibrant area.” –Vernon & Laura Geddy

Born and raised in Williamsburg, Vernon “Bud” Geddy, Jr. had a deep love of Williamsburg and its residents and a strong belief in giving back. “He and the other founding directors saw an opportunity with the Williamsburg 300th celebration and the Ukrop’s challenge grant to create something that would benefit the community forever” says Geddy’s son, Vernon Geddy III. Bud and his wife Mary Lou established an unrestricted fund at the Foundation in 2003 to support the fledgling grant making program at WCF. Vernon and his wife, Laura, continued the family tradition with the Geddy Family Fund.

“We knew that the Grants Committee would analyze the grant applications carefully, consider the needs in our community, and ultimately make thoughtful decisions on which grants to fulfill,” says Laura. Both Vernon and Laura have served as trustees, and most recently Laura spearheaded the planning of the 25th Anniversary Celebration. Laura is excited to see new and old friends coming together to support WCF’s grantmaking. “The enthusiasm and the desire to make our community a better place by the Foundation’s volunteers is infectious.”
