Gwynn Sawyer
Gwendolyn Brinkley Sawyer’s legacy will help those without a voice — providing perpetual funding for four organizations that reflect her deep compassion and concern for the vulnerable – both animals and people. She was passionate about providing for the welfare of animals and wanted people to be able to continue to enjoy the companionship of a pet even if their financial circumstances changed. Named in Gwynn’s honor by fellow volunteers who were inspired by her dedication, Gwendolyn’s Wish helps those with financial need by offering veterinary care for their pets.
Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg provides physical, emotional, social and spiritual support to enhance the quality of living for individuals facing the last phases of life and the people who love them.
From her younger days in Norfolk to her later life in Williamsburg, Gwynn was a devout Episcopalian. Her support for two organizations that began as outreach ministries of the Episcopal Church in Virginia will continue through her fund at WCF. Jackson-Feild Behavioral Health Services helps teens who suffer from severe emotional trauma, mental illness and/or addiction. Boys Home of Virginia provides young men ages 6-17 with caring emotional support and guidance, on-campus schooling, opportunity for spiritual growth, and vocational training. Thanks to Gwynn’s generosity, the Sawyer-Brinkley Fund will make its first grants in the spring of 2020.
