CASA advocates are the voice of neglected children in the courtroom and in the community.
The Williamsburg Community Foundation awarded $4,000 to assist Colonial Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) in its expansion into York County. This grant will provide interim operational funding until state funding “catches up” in the agency’s next fiscal year. Trained volunteer advocates work to assist our community’s youngest victims, its children. They serve as voices for children in the court system and work to assure the children are provided with a safe and supportive home environment. Many of these volunteers will provide support to a family over a number of years.
With its expansion to York County, CASA will double its caseload over the next few years. Due to this increase, CASA will recruit and train twelve to seventeen new advocates.
By providing funding to this important community asset the Williamsburg Community Foundation is investing in the protection of our community’s future and its most vulnerable citizens.
